Nari Maitree, in collaboration with GHAI and Data for Health, has embarked on an initiative aimed at bolstering Bangladesh’s civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) system. Building on the country’s existing commitment to better CRVS, including mandatory reporting of births and deaths within 45 days, this project highlights Nari Maitree’s advocacy role. Joining forces with other civil society groups, the project aims to push for important changes in public health data laws to create real improvements.

It emphasizes people’s rights, focuses on vulnerable groups, increases transparency in CRVS processes, holds people accountable, and improves access to essential services. The overall goal is to strengthen CRVS laws for the benefit of all Bangladeshis.
Bangladesh’s current civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) system is dispersed and inconsistent. Multiple laws govern different aspects of births, deaths, marriages, and identities, leading to gaps in data and services.
