Urban Green Graduation Programme

The Green Graduation programme will address underlying causes of poverty experienced by the urban people living in conditions of extreme poverty.  The programme will enhance waged and self-employment pathways – will focus on green jobs, increase access to finance, social safety nets, health and education and build resilience of participating households to a climate induced shocks and disaster through capacity building, awareness on environment and promotion of innovative climate smart urban horticulture. The overall objective of the programme will be achieved through sets of interventions as outlined below under each of the outcomes of the programme logic. Programme will have a strong advocacy component to address systemic barriers for accessing decent jobs, social safety nets, education and health services by the target groups. Decent work involves employment that is productive and delivers a fair income. It also should ensure workplace security, social protection, better prospects for personal development and social integration. The programme will nurture an inclusive growth and poverty reduction strategy following a ‘Family Approach’ and will support diversified sustainable livelihood options, and will promote environment friendly income generation and will support participants to access decent, green jobs.

For selecting the Small business (block grants) participants for Cohort 1, we conducted primary survey with database of household in total 2,107 (participant). From primary survey, we selected 777 participants and formed 52 Self-helps group have been developed to engage to ROSBI activities among the UGGP working communities as per vulnerability scoring.

By providing basic training on business skills transfer including Safeguarding, CRM, Psychosocial counselling sessions, orientation on effective utilization of consumption support and consumption support, and finally based on their capacity skills and interest, 353 families are selected from the Self help group members to supported with start-up capital or asset transfers (Block Grants) for the chosen livelihood option (Small business) and provide Consumption Support to improved food security of Graduation households.

Objectives:

Households can sustainably meet their basic needs and have improved coping strategies through strengthened livelihoods which place value on the natural environment.
