Md. Rabbi, a resident of Lalbag, is a promising example of how targeted training and community engagement can bring meaningful change. Rabbi is one of the Cohort 3 block grants participant of Urban Green Graduation Program implemented by Nari Maitree.

On the basis of his interest in greenery activities Rabbi was selected for Green Volunteer training and received two days long training. These learning opportunities have significantly influenced both his livelihood and his role in the community.
After completing the training, Rabbi started applying environmentally friendly practices in his daily life and business. He runs a small fast-food shop where he ensures hygienic and eco-friendly food serving. He avoids single-use plastics, promotes the use of paper and reusable materials, and maintains cleanliness in and around his shop. This has not only improved the quality of his service but also increased customer trust and satisfaction. As a Green Volunteer, Rabbi actively participates in tree plantation, waste management, and community clean-up initiatives. He regularly motivates local residents and fellow other business holder to reduce polythene use and adopt reusable alternatives. He also demonstrates how plastic waste can be reused creatively, helping to reduce environmental pollution.

Through the program’s support, Rabbi has developed both technical knowledge and practical skills. His business is now more sustainable and environmentally responsible. At the community level, his actions have contributed to increased awareness about environmental protection, reduced plastic usage, and improved cleanliness. People are now becoming inspired by his worked and are gradually adopting environmentally friendly habits.
In addition, Rabbi is continuously conducting awareness sessions in his community on dengue prevention, waterlogging, heatwaves, and protecting children from measles. He also regularly provides guidance on disaster preparedness and necessary actions to be taken during any emergency situation.
Rabbi’s journey reflects the positive outcome of integrating livelihood support with environmental awareness. With continued efforts, he is expected to play a key role in building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable community in Lalbag .
